It's ironic. Carl Broemel in 2014 is deep in the annals of "alternative". Yet, this beautiful version makes the original sound like the epitome of what could be imagined as truly "alternative", and Carl sounds as great as "pop" used to 50 years ago. Ironic is the only word for it. Ironically beautiful.
