Marianne Faithfull - Black Coffee
This bluesy cut is a good introduction to the concept of this album. This Sarah Vaughn song is paired with Salvation by the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Seemingly not reconcilable. But on this intriguing album - covering everyone from the Decemberists to Judy Garland/Bessie Smith, from Brian Eno to Billie Holiday, from Randy Newman to Merle Haggard - Faithfull makes it work as a whole because of her unique artistry. The band helps to tie it all together, with some interesting guest stars. I truly cannot shout-out a specific cut on the album as a stand-out, because it works together as a whole. A worthy investment. Marianne Faithfull version 1 Marianne Faithfull version 2
